Oranda Ski Jacket
Garment
Design
A professor said I only knew how to design elegant things. Both to prove them wrong and push myself I designed this ski jacket to be that ugly and complicated, couture look . Taking inspiration from the Oranda fish, I played with shape and 3D Shibori to give the expensive but truly ugly look of this jacket.
Fabriction
For the hood, I did 3-D Ne-Maki Shibori to give the bumps that allude to the Orand’as head. Then I 3-D Arashi Shibori the Front, Back, and Upper Sleeve to add more texture to the coat.
Patternmaking
So much patternamking on this one. I first added princess lines. Then added a fishtail hem. The patch pockets I took from the Arizona Bag, and added an inner 8 step exposed zipper pocket with a flap behind the patch pocket. Then I divided the upper and lower sleeve with a sleeve pocket. For the cuffs I patterned a flange with rib knit with thumbhole cuffs. On the inside I patterned a snow powder skirt and two on seam princess panel zipper pockets.
